Top Time Management Tips and Benefits for Students
“If I had a few extras hours in a day I could get all my homework done!”
Many students have thought or said this very statement. Because the world that we live in is so fast-paced, it can easily become overwhelming. While we only have a certain amount of hours in a day we can manage our time wisely by getting up earlier, figuring out what is important, keeping a scheduled calendar, and setting achievable goals. Doing these few things can make the most of your time.
Don’t Trust the Snooze Button
Getting up earlier brings with it so many advantages, but it can also prove to be difficult for some people. Even though it may seem like it, the snooze button is not a friend. It only helps to avoid the inevitable that the day must be faced. When you avoid the snooze button by getting straight out of bed it gives more time to prepare for whatever needs to be done that day. The excuse that there is no time for breakfast will become a thing of the past.
It is necessary to sit down at the beginning of each week to figure out what is important. Keep track of the course calendar of each class to learn what assignments need to be done and when they are due. There are 168 hours in a week. Keeping that thought in the forefront of your mind can help you mentally place which assignments need to be done first. A five-page essay should take superiority over the need to go see that action movie that just came out in the theaters. It is never good to waste time on what is not important since there is only a limited amount of time.
Once you have figured out what is important, it is best to write it down. Keeping a scheduled calendar helps show visually what needs to be done in an organized manner. And it helps with staying focused on what assignments need to be done in a timely fashion. Technology has come a long way now we have the capability of having a calendar on our smartphones. Using that calendar makes it convenient because you will always have it with you to check and keep track of.
Management Tips and Benefits
Lastly, setting goals for yourself can make a big impact on how you view time. For school, goals can be broken down into quarterly, monthly, weekly, or daily goals. A goal is a journey to an end result. So when making goals we should be able to see the end of it, it should be something that can be achieved. Making the goal to read a textbook in two weeks may be harder to reach than making the goal of trying to turn your weekly assignments in early.
It is true that we only have a limited amount of time to get things done for school, but if we follow just a few tips such as: getting up earlier, figuring out what is important, keeping a scheduled calendar, and setting goals for ourselves we will be able to make the most of our time. There will always only be 24 hours in a day. We won’t ever get any extra hours.
But by adopting these few tips we will be able to say, “I can’t believe I have so much time left!”
